Implementation of anti-smoking laws urged

Health experts here Saturday called for pre-emptive measures for implementation of anti-smoking laws and elimination of Shesha smoking culture from the society. They were addressing a seminar held under the auspices of College of Family Medicine (CFM) in connection with World Anti-Smoking Day, here on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, President CFM, Dr Saeed-ul-Majeed said that the Shesha has been medically proved as more injurious to health, though Shesha and cigarette are considered as fashion in the society, adding smokers' ratio has rapidly been growing in the country. He revealed that about 50 percent youth is habitual smoking Shesha according to a research of University of Karachi He feared that the growing trend would cause severe consequences for young generation in future. Majeed stressed upon the physicians to play their due role in prevention of mushroom growth of smoking in the society.
