BISP opts to work with PPAF for Waseela-e-Haq beneficiaries

Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Farzana Raja, has said that to curb the poverty and uplift the living standard of the downtrodden segments of society, BISP has applied a multi-pronged strategy based on best international practices.
She said that technical/vocational training is one of the crucial aspects of BISP as it aims at creating income generation opportunities for the poorest of the poor of the society. Chairperson BISP said this while talking to Qazi Azmat Isa, Chief Executive Officer Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) who called on her here on Tuesday. Muhammad Sher Khan, Secretary BISP, was also present on the occasion.
Farzana Raja lauded the efforts of PPAF and said that the organisation has done commendable work during last one decade. Keeping in view the credibility and efficiency of PPAF, She said, BISP has opted to work in collaboration with PPAF regarding training and counselling of Waseela-e-Haq beneficiary families.
Besides, she said, PPAF is collaborating in the disbursement of interest-free assistance to the beneficiary families and monitoring the successful progress of their businesses, adding that BISP is also looking forward to launching demand- driven vocational training Programme in partnership with PPAF.
Qazi appreciated the role of BISP with regard to poverty alleviation and said that BISP is bringing about a social revolution in the lives of the millions of down trodden families affected by abject poverty. He said that through Nation-wide Poverty Survey being done by BISP, quality socio-economic data is being collected, which will prove to be an asset for informed policy making in the public as well as development sector.-PR
