Eunuchs in Sindh to get right of inheritance

The eunuch in Sindh province would get right of inheritance very soon, sources in Social Welfare Department told Business Recorder here on Tuesday. Following the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan about the rights of eunuchs in the country, the department has taken steps in this regard.
According a survey being carried out by the Social Welfare department, there are more than three thousands eunuchs living in the province. The survey is underway and would be completed soon. The department has written letters to the high-ups of Revenue department, Board of Revenue and Law department for taking steps for ensuring rights of inheritance of the eunuchs.
Quoting the verdict of the Supreme Court, the letter said it was necessary to give the rights of inheritance to the eunuchs, the sources said. The letter has underlined the need for proper legislation regarding the issue, the Law department has started work in this regard.
Focal Person over the issue, Additional Secretary Social Welfare Dr Iqbal Saeed while talking to Business Recorder said that soon after the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan, the department had geared-up its efforts to ensure the rights of the transvestites. He said that they were focusing on ensuring the rights of inheritance of the eunuchs, as they were being deprived of this right.
He said that they had held many meetings with officials of Revenue department, law department and Board of Revenue regarding the issue. He said that the department would also get their votes registered with Election Commission of Pakistan. It is pertinent to mention here that officials of Social Welfare Department had already approached the authorities of Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Authority (STEVTA) for imparting technical training to the she-males.
