Afridi's resignation accepted

The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman says he accepts Shahid Afridi's decision to quit international cricket and has given the World Cup captain a week to respond to a code of conduct charge. Ijaz Butt insisted Afridi, known as one of cricket's most destructive limited-overs batsmen, would be welcomed back if he chose to reverse his decision.
"To retire from cricket is Afridi's decision," Butt told a local television channel. "We have not stopped Afridi from playing and the doors are open for him." Butt removed Afridi as Pakistan's One-day captain after the enigmatic allrounder criticised the team management on his return home from West Indies. Afridi was selected for the two recent ODIs against Ireland but pulled out due to his father being ill.
