Journalists condemn murder

The journalists community of Khyber Paktunkhwa has deplored the brutal killing of an Islamabad-based senior journalist Saleem Shahzad and demanded of the government to expose faces behind his murder.
Saiful Islam Saifi, President Peshawar Press Club (PPC), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, President, South Asia Freed Media Association (SAFMA) along with scores of journalists, former MPA from Chitral Abdul Akbar Chitrali attended the protest demo.
They were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans against the killing of Saleem Shahzad and said that it was a judicial murder and called for provision of adequate measures to protect lives and properties of journalists community in the country.
The resolution demanded of government to announce special financial package for heirs of Saleem Shahzad and probe into incident through independent and impartial judicial commission.
Condemning the killing of Saleem Shehzad the KhUJ President Arshad Aziz Malik said that it was not the first incident of its kind but several other journalists had been killed during the past three years but the government had failed to nab the killers.
He said that the government was using delaying tactics to arrest the accused involved in the different journalists' murder cases. Such ugly incidents had caused serious unrest among the journalists community and they were feeling themselves completely insure in the prevailing situation and asked for immediate arrest of the murderers, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, President KhUj, Arsahd Aziz Malik condemned the killing of Saleem Shahzad and said the said that the government had failed to provide protection to journalists' community. He said that a large number of journalists had killed in line of duty due to absence of protection.
