Military pensions 220 percent higher than civilian ones

Federal budget 2011-12 documents show that total outlay on military pensions is 220 percent more than civil services pensions. The government has allocated Rs 96.138 billion for pensions during the next financial year; of which, Rs 73.218 billion has been earmarked for pensions of the military, against Rs 71.915 billion the year before, showing an increase of 1.8 percent.
On the other hand, Rs 22.920 billion has been earmarked for pensions for civil retired employees, against Rs 18.765 billion allocated in the budget for 2010-11, and revised to Rs 20.773 billion, showing an increase of 10.3 percent. Military pensions are part of the defence budget, but since the Musharraf government, military pensions are included in civil expenditure.
