In a bid to launch joint strategy in Senate against the government, three Pakistan Muslim League-Q three dissident Senators on Saturday held a meeting with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)'s chief Nawaz Sharif. Those who held meeting with the PML-N's chief here at Punjab House, Senator Tariq Azim, Senator Naeem Hussan Chatta and Senator Javed Ali Shah and discussed the ways to mount pressure on the government.
PML-N's Senator Raja Zafar-ul-Haq and Ishaq Dar were also present in the meeting, besides others. Talking to Business Recorder, Tariq Azeem confirmed the meeting, saying they held 'fruitful' meeting with Nawaz Sharif in which, he said they agreed to launch a joint strategy against the government's policies as well as to give it tough time during rest of the budget session.
Contrary to his party's leadership's position the dissident Senators have joined opposition benches in the Upper House of the parliament against the decision of the Chaudhrys'. The PML-Q's Senators have also supported PML-N's candidate Senator Ishaq Dar for the slot of leader of the opposition which fell vacant after former House leader Wasim Sajjad joined treasury benches.
To a question, Azim ruled out linking the recent move of the PML-Q's dissidents with politics of Punjab in which the PML-Q's forward bloc supported the ruling PML-N that paved way to oust its former ally PPP from the provincial alliance. He added that the meeting has nothing to do with it rather they discussed joint strategy against the government in the Senate.
