The average temperature over Pakistan will increase 1.3 to 1.5°C by 2020 and from 2.5 to 2.8°C by 2050s due to increasing pollution that would cause to melt the glaciers. During the last century, average annual temperature over Pakistan increased by 0.6°C with the temperature increases over northern Pakistan being higher than over southern Pakistan (0.8°C versus 0.5°C).
To sensitise the people of Pakistan, the University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, organised a speech competition on the issue of environment and took out a rally on the eve of World Environmental Day. The speech competition was organised by the Faculty of Agriculture Engineering and Technology and the session was presided over by UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan.
Addressing on the occasion, UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan stressed the need to take measures to protect the earth from the pollution of all kinds including air, water and land. He stressed, it is the need of the hour to educate the people about the issue otherwise the coming generation will pay for it.
He said that the time has come to cope with the challenge and take tangible steps to counter the hazard that has started playing havoc with the health of the people across the globe, and Pakistan is the worst victim of it. He called for increasing the education about the issue among the people. He urged the people need to save forests and increase tree net as the main factors causing pollution include a fast growing transport sector, deforestation, industry and many other.
