US delegation, defence minister discuss regional security

A seven-member delegation of US Congress led by Doug Lamborn, on Tuesday called on Federal Minister for Defence, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar and discussed the over all security situation in the region and matters of bilateral interests. Secretary Defence, Lieutenant General Syed Athar Ali (Retd) was also present in the meeting.
They discussed a host of issues including Pakistan's vital role in the fight against terror and regional security situation. The delegation emphasised the need to improve and strengthen the mechanism of bilateral co-operation as well as joint co-ordination in the fields of defence and security.
The minister highlighted the counter-terrorism efforts made by Pakistan and said that the war has badly affected the economy of the country. He informed the delegation that Pakistan wants to see peace and stability because only peace and stability could guarantee foreign investment and prosperity in the region.-PR
