Rs 1.439 billion black tea imported in May

Pakistan imported 7 million kg of black tea worth Rs 1.439 billion ($16.695 million) from 16 different countries in May 2011. Kenya remained the major tea exporter to Pakistan with a share of 49.31 percent in the total trade of this commodity during the month. Pakistan imported 3.453 million kg of black tea worth Rs 912.040 million during the period under review.
India maintained the second position with its share of 18.63 percent as Pakistan imported 1.304 million kg black tea worth Rs 154.639 million from this neighbouring country during May. In the other major tea exporters category was Rwanda with its share of 6.96 percent in total import of this commodity, Burundi 3.45 percent, China 3.33 percent and Vietnam 3.16 percent. Pakistan also imported 153,313 kg green tea worth Rs 346,650 in May 2011. Vietnam was the largest green tea exporter to Pakistan with its share of 64.75 percent in total trade of this commodity followed by Indonesia with 20.42 percent and China 14.84 percent.
