After the killing of its senior security official, Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) has closed down its Business Management Centres (BMCs) in the city and shifted some important departments to its head office, Business Recorder has learnt here on Tuesday.
The utility official, Mohammed Ali Saqi, was gunned down in Malir area on Sunday, which forced the management of the utility to close down its offices. KESC has also shifted billing, IT, security, procurement and shares departments to its Gizri head office. The company has also close down its as many as 50 BMCs across the city.
When this scribe visited the head office of the utility, it was depicting the scene of a refugee camp and was over crowded. The consumers having any problem in any part of the city have been advised to go to Gizri for redressal of their complaints.
The consumers have to wait in long queues outside the Gizri office in a scorching heat to get their problems resolved. When KESC spokesman Amin-u-Rehman was contacted he said the offices of KESC were vacated by the hooligans through threats and pestering and the staff on duty were pushed out of the offices. He said at present the foremost priority of the utility is to normalise power supply situation in the city as soon as possible.
