Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has chosen Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif as the candidate for the next prime minister for general elections 2018.

According to local media reports, deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced this decision during a meeting with his party leaders at his Jati Umra residence. He also praised his brother Shehbaz for his diligent nature and described him as the most suitable person for the premiership.

Nawaz also praised Shehbaz for the development and progress in Punjab under his efforts as chief minister. He further added that Shehbaz has never disappointed him.

This announcement by him hints at a truce between the two brothers as rumors had been reported by the media about disagreement between the two brothers.

When Nawaz was disqualified as prime minister in July, Shehbaz had been the first choice of PML-N chief for premiership. However, Shehbaz had refused the position preferring to stay as the chief minister of Punjab and endure timely completion of mega projects initiated by him. The slot had then been given to Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.
