Three people were killed and 32 injured when Peruvian students clashed with police over plans for a new university in the central region of Huancavelica, officials said Wednesday. Authorities said the clashes erupted late Tuesday and went on into the night, after students protested plans to open a new university site, which they feared could hurt funding for an existing facility.
The clashes erupted a week after Peruvian lawmakers approved the creation of a new university in Tayacaja.
