Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah has appointed a retired officer of Pakistan State Oil (PSO), Nazir Chakrani as Director General of Gorakh Hills Development Authority (GHDA), well informed sources told Business Recorder.
Earlier, the Sindh government had removed ex Director General GHDA, Abdul Qadir Mangi who was also appointed on contract basis, in compliance with the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan. Chakrani was General Manager (International Trade) at Pakistan State Oil. He moved to Canada after taking pre-mature retirement from PSO's a few years back. According to the sources, Chakrani has also worked at Port Qasim Authority (PQA) as Director on contract period of one year.
On the recommendation of Minister for Tourism, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ayaz Soomro, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has appointed Chakrani as Director General GHDA (BPS 20) on contract period of one year, sources told. Sources claimed that Chakrani would get very lucrative package.
The development work on the Gorakh Hills initially started in 1989. The Sindh government has also allocated Rs 150 million in Annual Development Programme (ADP) for Gorakh Hills project. The Sindh government initiated this project with 50% share of the federal government in 2005 with total estimated cost of Rs 999 million. According to official documents, the work on Gorakh Hill will be completed by 2013.
