THE RUPEE: dollar a bit low

The rupee recovered modestly against dollar on the currency market on Tuesday, experts said. The rupee shrugged of overnight vulnerability in terms of dollar, gaining five paisa for buying at 86.04 and picking up four paisa for selling at 86.08, they said.
The euro briefly rose to an intraday high near $1.4330 in early Asian trading, with stop-loss buying near $1.4310 helping add to its gains. But it later lost steam, stalling short of resistance clustered near the $1.4350 to $1.4360 area, with market players citing talk of euro offers near $1.4320 to $1.4330.
The euro edged up 0.1 percent from late US trade on Monday to $1.4295, adding to the gains made the previous day, when it enjoyed a short squeeze from a low of $1.4102.
Interbank buy/sell rates for taka against dollar on Tuesday: 74.10/74.14 (previous 74.08/74.10) Call Money Rates: 6.00-10.50 percent (previous 6.00-12.00 percent. Indian rupee was available at Rs 45.03 versus dollar, Malaysian ringgit was trading at 3.0425 in terms of the greenback and Chinese yuan at 6.4741 against the US currency.

According to the currency dealers, the dollar witnessed selling pressure that helped rupee appreciation in the local market. The dollar was closed at Rs 86.10 and Rs 86.30, as its buying and selling rates against the day earlier closing of Rs 86.15 and Rs 86.35, respectively.
Similarly, the rupee showed strength and improved its worth on buying side, while it remained unchanged on selling side against the pound sterling. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 138.00 and Rs 139.00, as compared to Monday closing of Rs 138.60 and Rs 139.00, respectively, the dealers said.
The dollar opened at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.20 (selling) against the overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 86.00 (buying) and Rs 86.20 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 138.40 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling) against the overnight value. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 138.40 (buying) and Rs 138.50 (selling).
