University of Agriculture, Faisalabad, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan has stressed the need to adopt interdisciplinary and collaborative programmes so that students can take admission in subjects in which they can find jobs in relevant fields.
Professor Khan was speaking at a Higher Education Commission (HEC) PhD Review Committee meeting chaired by former Government College University, Lahore, vice-chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Aftab at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences' Syndicate room on Tuesday.
He also recommended that PhD programme should be launched only in those departments that have at least three relevant full time PhD faculty members. He also observed that NTS was not relevant to GRE test. He stressed that the universities should introduce PhD programmes under one head instead of introducing separate branches like public health and epidemiology. Professor Aftab said the purpose of the review committee was to ensure quality of programmes and create a uniform mechanism for ensuring quality in standards of teaching and research in the universities of Pakistan.
