Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti, has taken notice of growing incidents of police torture and maltreatment against journalists and sought immediate report in this regard. The chief minister also directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take prompt action against those police personnel who were indulged in such incidents.
He issued directives here on Tuesday following a submission of memorandum by Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ), in which drawn attention toward the growing police torture and manhandling incidents on journalists. Chief minister said that the provincial government believes in freedom of expression, saying that journalists are performing their professional duties in difficult circumstances, especially in prevailing situation of the province.
