'Social networking key to effective governance'

IT experts at a seminar have said social networking is a key to effective governance as the emerging trend of social grouping is predominant in the developed world for retaining accuracy in the political and administrative system.
The seminar on "Use of online Social Network for effective governance" was held under the aegis of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Science & Information Technology SIT here at local hotel. Khyber Pakhtunkwa, Minister of Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain was the chief guest. Provincial Minister for Science & Information Technology, Mohammad Ayub Khan, provincial legislators and IT experts were present.
The keynote speakers were Director SIT, Sajid Hussain, Secretary IT Mohammad Hamayun Khan, and Minister of Science & Information Technology, Mohammad Ayub Khan. Speakers highlighted the significance and tendency of social networking around the world. They said that the political objectives were being achieved through membership of social networking websites. They said there was no precedent in Pakistan about social networking at government departments. There were few prominent political figures, who have become active members of social networking websites, they said.
Speakers stressed the need for computerisation at all government departments to share essential information and programmes on social networking websites to keep accountability and transparency. They also urged politicians to acquire knowledge of modern technology for sharing their ideas and also getting ideas from the masses for the improvement in the system.
Speakers said that social networking has become more important in developed world for gaining political objectives. They emphasised that the politicians should also register themselves at social networking websites. Mohammad Hamayun, Secretary IT explained that the objective of the seminar was to promote modern technology in the province.
