29 Jun, 2011

Chaudhry Anwar Ali Cheema, Federal Minister for Production has appreciated the devolution of ministries under the 18th Amendment to the provinces. He has said that the devolution would further empower the provincial governments as these will be directly administering the affairs of the devolved ministries.
However, it is time that the provincial government start preparing themselves for holding elections to local bodies, the Minister observed this while talking to a delegation of some politicians who met him in his office here on Tuesday. The Federal Minister said that after the passage of the 18th amendment, devolution of certain ministries to the provinces was due. Today, the cabinet has finally fulfilled its commitment to promote provincial autonomy. The devolution will further strengthen the democratic culture in the country, the Minister added.
Chaudhry Anwar Ali Cheema has called upon the provincial governments to go ahead for the election to local bodies. According to the Minister, the essence of democratic spirit will be satisfied only if the provincial governments transfer the powers to the grass-roots level through local bodies. The elections to local bodies would help promote democratic culture in the country through public representation at the basic level.
The Minister, while appreciating the role of the Implementation Committee of the Parliament, stated that a vital, but complicated act of devolution has been achieved. In this regard, the Minister paid special tribute to Senator Raza Rabbaini - head of the Implementation Committee and all the other members of the committee, who worked day and night tirelessly and diligently.-PR
