Secretary General, Meat Exporters and Processors Association Syed Hassan Raza has stressed the need for improvement in the procedure of disbursement of livestock loans. He also said that benefit of the subsidies should reach the grassroots level farmers, meat exporters and traders.
He was addressing the workshop on "Possibilities of Value Addition in Meat" organised by Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) on Wednesday. The workshop was attended by various stakeholders belonging to the meat sector. Director General Punjab, TDAP, Lahore, Chaudhry Muhammad Ali and Director TDAP Lahore Shahzad Hussain Rana were also present on the occasion.
Raza outlined different governmental interventions required in enhancing tendency towards value addition. Younus Qureshi of Red Cow Meat Company discussed costing / pricing of value added meat products while Dr Kanwar Naeem of Lahore Meat Company talked about supply chain enhancement.
Dr Kashif Nauman of University of Veterinary Sciences and Animal (UVAS), Lahore talked about the importance of value addition in meat and apprised the participants that "heat and serve red meats could easily generate $1 billion annual sales within a decade".
Shahzad Hussain Rana, Director, TDAP, Lahore made the inaugural speech and highlighted the importance of value addition in meat. He was of the view that demand of meat is much higher than its supply and we should export value added meat products for more profit and foreign exchange earning.
In the end, a panel discussion concluded unanimously that by training and teamwork we can go ahead in the field of value addition and market diversification. Chaudhry Muhammad Ali, Director General Punjab, TDAP, Lahore thanked all the participants for taking keen interest and awarded certificates amongst them.
