Afghan authorities have arrested two former executives at the scandal-plagued Kabul Bank, which nearly collapsed last year because of mismanagement and questionable lending. Deputy Attorney General Rahmatullah Nazari said Thursday that former bank chairman Sherkhan Farnood and former chief executive officer Khalilullah Ferozi were arrested the day before on suspicion of bilking the bank of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Former Afghan central bank governor Abdul Qadir Fitrat announced his resignation earlier this week after fleeing to the US He said he feared for his life and claimed he was being made a scapegoat while Afghan authorities refused to charge others involved in questionable loans.
