Mehwish Iftikhar clinches gold medal in World Special Olympics

A Kashmir-born Hearing Impaired and Mentally Retarded national special table-tennis star Mehwish Iftikhar emerged triumphant winning gold medal for Pakistan in the keenly-contested final match in the ongoing World Special Olympics in Athens.
Mehwish, the resident of a remote village Panjaira of Kotli, is the student of Mirpur-based Kashmir Institute of Special Education (KISE) engaged in providing free educational facilities to the special children.
Unveiling the historic victory of the national special table tennis star, Director KISE Dr Amjad Insari told reporters here Sunday that Mehwish also already holds the distinction of national gold-medallist table tennis star after she won the gold medal at the national Olympics.
He said she attained another success after bagging second position in the federal regional Olympics played at the Sports Complex in Islamabad in recent past. Dr Insari said Mehwish would be accorded a rousing reception on her arrival back to home (Mirpur) on Wednesday next (July 6) from Athens.
