Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to take up power tariff issue with Centre

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will take up issue of power tariff with the federal government for provision of cheaper electricity to masses in the province. The provincial government is focusing to meet growing energy needs by initiating different hydel power generation projects in the province, said that provincial Minister, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, while speaking at a function in connection with provincial autonomy here at Nishtar Hall Peshawar.
He renewed the pledged that provincial government is committed to overcome with growing energy shortage after provincial autonomy under the 18th constitutional amendments. "We will have in a position to generate sufficient electricity to meet domestic energy demand and fix its prices at lowest after passage of 18th constitutional amendments, he determined.
Mian Iftikhar has termed that the passage of 18th constitutional amendments would strength democracy and institutions in the country, saying that the dream has become true due to joint efforts of all democratic forces. He stressed the need of national thinking for provision of equal rights to all citizens of the country, saying that the progress and development are paramount in a balanced society. He recalled that the Dhaka and Bangladesh debacle had remembered as more popular incidents in the world, which was occurred due to absence of provincial rights and autonomy in the country.
Mian Iftikhar praised the all political forces for resolution of the key national issue of the provincial autonomy through a democratic process. He said that dream has become true due kind efforts of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minster Yousuf Raza Gilani, Chairman Implementation Commission on 18th Amendment Senator Raza Rabani and leaders of all political parties.
He said the provincial government is keenly focusing to overcome with growing energy shortage following devolution process under the 18th constitutional amendments. The minister informed that the feasibility study of 7 hydel power projects have been completed out of which two power generation projects in Swat and Chitral will be functionalised within next two months. Later, a culture show was also presented in which culture and literary figures took part.
