'Garment exporters eye business opportunities in Bangladesh'

A large number of garment exporters are presently looking for business opportunities in Bangladesh, said sources in the readymade garment industry. A prominent exporter from Lahore, requesting anonymity said that a large number of garment exporters were examining feasibilities.
"I know about five to six garment exporters presently are interested in setting up their businesses in Bangladesh," he said. He said one main reason behind this phenomenon is that the international buyers have established their offices and buying houses in Bangladesh. Majority of Pakistani exporters were visiting Bangladesh to get orders from international buyers, he said.
Another leading garment exporter said that the international buyers have stipulated countless conditions as a prerequisite to place order for Pakistani exporters. It is not the case with the Bangladesh, therefore, the garment exporters are thinking seriously of shifting their units to Bangladesh.
Bangladesh garment industry has progressed rapidly in recent past with the availability of GSP Plus status. Exports of Bangladesh garment is on the rise with every passing year, propelling many leading and successful Pakistani businessmen to avail the opportunity.
The ongoing energy crisis, security situation and unfriendly attitude of the government were some other factors behind the garment exporters' decision to shift their businesses in Bangladesh, said the exporter, adding that he knew many other exporters both from Lahore and Karachi who intend to shift their businesses to Bangladesh.
