Two militants, among them a commander of the militant Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) group, were killed in gunbattle in held Kashmir on Saturday, officials said. The incident comes after the army and the police surrounded a house in a village in the southern Pulwama district late Friday upon receiving intelligence that three militants had taken shelter there.
"The militants were told to lay down the weapons but they opened indiscriminate fire, starting the gunbattle," police spokesman Prabhakar Tripathi told reporters. "Two militants were killed on Saturday. One of them has been identified as a divisional commander of the Jaish-e-Mohammed group," he said. An army major and a soldier were also injured in combat.
