A fire at a retirement home in western Ukraine killed 16 people early on Sunday, the Emergency Ministry said. Fire engulfed the one-storey wood-and-concrete retirement home in the village of Bile in the Rivne region shortly after midnight, the ministry said in a statement.
"As a result of fire, 16 persons died and 11 (including two staff members) were rescued," it said. The ministry said three of those rescued were in serious condition. The fire appears to have started as a result of negligence, it said.
