Status after devolution: JPMC doctors, staff seek details

12 Jul, 2011

The Joint Action Committee of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre doctors and staff in a meeting on Monday urged the authorities to announce a clear-cut policy about their status in the post-devolution phase of federally administered institutions as JPMC.
They also registered serious concern about paucity of funds to run the tertiary care hospital in the following few days' time as disclosed by the JPMC Executive Director Professor Tasnim Ahsan on Saturday.
Dr Sameer Qureishi, Co-Chairperson of Joint Action Committee of JPMC doctors and staff, said that decision made in accordance to a constitutional amendment could have been implemented after threadbare deliberations. "All pros and cons should have been discussed and a foolproof mechanism must have been adopted for its pragmatic implementation," he said.
He said that the authorities must immediately ensure availability of funds for the hospital, catering to the health needs of thousands of resourceless patients of the country. "We, despite all compulsions, do not want to resort to strike," he told APP in reply to a question.
