Sindh Agriculture department has notified the changing of designations, functions and powers of officers posted in districts, Business Recorder learnt it on Tuesday. After the promulgation of an ordinance regarding revival of Sindh Local Government System (SLGS) 1979, the City and District governments that were established under Sindh Local Government Ordinance (SLGO) 2001 in the era of Pervez Musharaf have now been abolished.
Agriculture department was devolved to district governments along with other 11 departments with promulgation of SLGO 2001. According to the present notification, Executive District Officers (EDOs) of Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Mirpurkhas will work as Directors (Agriculture). Whereas, rest of the EDOs of other districts will work as Additional Directors (Agriculture) while District Officers (DOs) will work as Deputy Directors (DDs) and Deputy District Officers (DDOs) will work as Assistant Directors (ADs), sources informed.
In recently-developed scenario, four Additional Directors (Agriculture) will be posted in revived-districts of Karachi within a couple of days, sources said. Sources from within the department told Business Recorder that with the change of designations of the officers, their powers and functions also have been enhanced. Earlier, all EDOs were bound to report concerned DCOs, now they will work under the Directors of concerned divisions, sources concluded.
