Pakistan, Iraq agree to boost S&T ties

"There is a lot of potential and opportunities, between the two brotherly countries, that can be exploited for common benefits". Federal Minister for Science & Technology, Mir Changez Khan Jamali said this to the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq, Dr Rushdi Al-Ani who called on him here on Tuesday.
During the course of the meeting, Jamali apprised Dr Rushdi about different projects and initiatives launched by his ministry to make headway in the field of science and technology. Jamali said that his ministry will undertake all possible steps to boost co-operation between the two countries in the field of technology, research and innovation. Both the sides also committed themselves to exchange education and research programmes and expand scope of mutual co-operation to increase people to people contact. The minister said that acquisition of modern and advanced education is the best way to stave off threat of terrorism and extremism and for this the two countries need to co-operate more effectively and cordially.
Dr Rushdi Al-Ani said that Iraqi minister for science & technology will visit Pakistan in the coming months to expand the scope of co-operation in the particular field, adding that efforts are underway to establish direct flights between the two countries.-PR
