The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information, Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Tuesday said that the government has taken steps for welfare of journalist community in the province, saying journalists were rendering matchless sacrifices in the prevailing situation.
Speaking at a cheque distribution ceremony for journalists' community hailing from Lakki Marwat, he said that the government has adopted a clear-cut policy for provision of grant to journalists' community in the province beyond any political affiliation. MPA Yasmin Zia, Secretary Information and Culture, Azmat Hanif Orakzai, Director Information Shuaibuddin, Assistant Director Journalistic Affairs Alhaj Zameer Gul Zahid and President of ANP Lakki Marwat Sadruddin, others were also present.
He said that the government is striving to unite different parallel bodies and groups of the journalists and brought them at one platform, which would helpful to promote positive and quality journalism in the province. The provincial minister said that the steps are being taken for the welfare of the journalists' community, which was never seen, in previous regime.
About the prevailing law and order situation, he stressed upon the police and security agencies should keep close eye movement of terrorists' from Frontier Regions and settled areas in the wake of turbulent situation in South and North Waziristan Agencies and rest of tribal areas. Later, he handed over a cheque of Rs 3 million to Muhammad Zubair Marwat, President Lakki Marwat Press Club.
