Lahore High Court Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry here Wednesday adjourned to September 13 the hearing for final arguments in a petition questioning the Ashiana Housing Scheme. Appearing before the court, the law officer Hanif Khatana contended that draw of allotment of houses was purely on merit and its results were placed on Internet. He said there was no malafide intention of the government in this scheme but to facilitate the needy to make their houses.
The petition against the scheme was moved by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree alleged that the allotment being conducted under the scheme is not transparent and fair as favourites and blue-eyed of authorities are being given houses while needy people left out. He prayed to the court to direct the respondents to infuse transparency and equity in the scheme.
