Just as Facebook demonstrates our memories or makes our video and picture collages that shows our important events, Google too has decided to present our selfies from our past year.

Since 2017 is towards its end, Google Photos have introduced a new video feature called “Smiles of 2017”. The feature automatically selects the user's selfies from 2017 and presents them in a special way to help the user revive those special moments.

Google Photos is originally used as a backup feature of our photos and videos that the user stores on the online Google drive. In the latest update, apart from supplying free backups, the app creates collages and movies through the pictures taken from smartphones.

The news of the new feature was initially reported by Android Police. The video clip pops up in the Assistant section of Google Photos. Similes of 2017 merge series of backed up images and add a background song along with transitions all on its own. The whole clip is in total 40 to 60 seconds long.

The seasonal Smiles of 2017 feature has already started rolling out to many users worldwide. However, many parts of the world that have not received it yet will soon receive it. In order to look at the clip, the user would have to open up Google Photos and tap Assistant icon located at the bottom of the screen, reported Android Authority.

Google Photos is able to generate these short video clips with the help of machine learning. Machine learning lets the app to recognize smiles, animals, vehicles and such other objects in images.
