Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has supported Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) for the post of Leader of Opposition in the Senate. Senate Secretariat Friday told Business Recorder that for this purpose, MQM Senators have submitted to Chairman Senate an application in which they supported the candidature of Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri for the post of Opposition Leader.
Following support of six MQM senators, JUI-F will muster the required majority that it needs to make Haideri Opposition Leader in the Senate. When contacted MQM Senator, Colonel Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi (Retd) said that his party had supported Abdul Ghafoor Haideri for the post of Opposition Leader. Senator Rehmatullah Kakar of JUI-F termed MQM's support to Haideri as a right decision by the Altaf Hussain-led party. According to him, JUI-F is the single largest opposition party in the Senate with 13 senators.
