Anjum Aqeel surrenders to police

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Anjum Aqeel involved in Rs 6 billion National Police Foundation land scam, on Saturday night surrendered to law enforcement agencies which shifted him to some unknown place. Earlier, a civil court had declared Anjum Aqeel as proclaimed offender after he was forcibly taken away by his supporters from the police station, on Friday.
The Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) remanded more than 30 people in police and judicial custody. The court later granted bail to 13 police officials including Superintendent of Police (SP) who were arrested for negligence. Islamabad Police arrested 32 persons including the MNA's brother-in-law SP Dr Nadeem and SHO Shalimar Fayyaz Tanoli, Friday night. These people were allegedly involved in helping Anjum Aqeel to escape from the police custody.
Shalimar Police presented all 32 persons before the ATC, Rawalpindi under strict security. The bail applications of detained police officials including SP Dr Nadeem and SHO Shalimar Fayyaz Tanoli were presented in civil court in Islamabad and the court accepted the bail plea against the surety bonds of Rs 50,000 each.
The ATC handed over 11 persons to police on five-day remand, while 21 others were sent to Adiala Jail on judicial remand. Talking to media in Shalimar Police Station, Bani Amin Khan, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad said that over 400 people were involved in the attack on police vehicle, carrying the MNA. The IGP said the prosecution would request the court to issue orders for confiscation of all movable and immovable property of the MNA. It is learnt that the inquiry report would be sent to the Interior Ministry.
