Power shortfall reaches 5,975MW

20 Jul, 2011

The power shortfall surged 5,975MW as generation was recorded 12,934MW against total demand of 18,909MW during last 24 hours. The consumers, both domestic and commercial were suffering badly as loadshedding duration crossed 10 hours a day in urban and 18 hours a day in rural areas.
The traders are distressed due to hours-long loadshedding as the holy month of Ramadan is also approaching fast. They said they were clueless about their trading activities ahead of Eid, as the consumers were abstaining from visiting shops in the wee hours.
Power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs stood at 5213MW, 1945MW, 5565MW, and 211MW respectively. Meanwhile, power supply to the KESC remained 720MW. Power generation sources are short of gas and fuel supplies, which is causing heavy disruption in power supply.
