18th Amendment to strengthen institutions: KP minister

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Minister for Forest, Wajid Ali Khan, said the passage of 18th constitutional amendments will strength institutions as several departments have been devolved to provinces. Addressing at a meeting held here at Pakistan Forest Institute (PFI), University of Peshawar on Thursday.
The minister said that University of Peshawar is great alma mater and high seat of learning of the country, saying that PFI holds a key position in imparting professional forest education as its affiliated institute.
He called for close liaison between officials of UoP and PFI to discuss all the relevant matters and proposals, which could be helpful timely implementation.
Earlier, briefing Director Planning and Development, Muhammad Haroon in his detailed presentation said that Pakistan Forest Institute is offering BS and MSc in forestry and University of Peshawar is the degree-awarding institute of PFI.
The University Vice Chancellor, Dr Azmat Hayat Khan said, research and innovation is the basic responsibility of higher education institutions. He informed that Pakistan has comprised of less than 5 % forest area, which is far beyond international standard.
He emphasised the need for preserving the endangered forest and plant species to overcome this problem. There is no better option than conducting joint researches by experts from PFI and UoP for uplift of forests in the country, he concluded.
