LHC orders ETPB chief to regularise services of 470 employees

23 Jul, 2011

The Lahore High Court on Friday ordered Chairman, Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) to implement the federal government's decision and regularise services of 470 daily wages and 61 contract employees and also release their withheld salaries within seven days.
The court issued these orders in a petition filed by Kavita Butt and Imran Haideri who questioned non implementation of the federal cabinet decision with regard to regularisation of contract and daily wages employees working in different departments of Pakistan.
The petitioners through their counsel pleaded that the cabinet in its meeting held on May 6, 2011 also approved regularisation of all such employees working in ETPB and the decision was conveyed to the boards' chairman.
Their counsel pointed out that all other departments implemented the decision and regularised their employees working on contract or daily wages but the employees of ETPB had not been regularised so far.
He said the petitioners and other employees of the board had also been denied their salaries for the last four months. The counsel said the holy month of Ramadan was fast approaching which will be followed by Eid-ul-Fitr and in this situation denying salaries to the petitioners means depriving them from their right to live.
The petitioners, therefore, prayed the court to direct the chairman ETPB to implement the decision of the federal government and regularise their services and also release withheld salaries.
