National Working Group meeting on July 27

Federal government has called its 8th National Working Group meeting on Wednesday to draw a national plan for disaster management for the whole country. The meeting is being organised by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and One UN DRM Programme and will be attended by the representatives of concerned ministries, international donors, professionals and non-government organisations.
The meeting will review and discuss the progress and the achievements, expansion of DRR initiatives to provinces/districts and challenges and the way forward for DRR under the 18th Constitutional Amendment. The meeting, which will be presided over by Chairman NDMA, Dr Zafar Qadir will review the progress and identify challenges in mainstreaming disaster Risk Reduction initiatives in the planning of future development programmes to ensure disaster resilient and sustainable socio-economic development.
The National Disaster Management Ordinance enacted by the Parliament in 2010 mandates NDMA to draw a national plan for disaster management for the whole of the country in consultation with the provincial governments and expert bodies or organisations to include measures to be taken for the prevention, mitigation and preparedness and capacity building to effectively respond to any threatening disaster situation or disaster.
