'Protecting honour of judiciary': Shahbaz for another 'long march'

27 Jul, 2011

The PPP-led federal government has declared war against the superior judiciary and we are ready to sacrifice our government to protect the judiciary's honour and dignity, Punjab Chief Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif said here on Tuesday. Addressing a news conference, Shahbaz Sharif said PPP has thrown a challenge by not implementing Supreme Court's orders, PML (N) accepts this challenge.
The federal government is defying orders of the judiciary to hide its own corruption and that of its coalition partners. If the PPP continued on this path, then society would be led towards a path of self-destruction, he added. Shahbaz Sharif said there is no such example anywhere in the world as the corrupt rulers are protecting the plunderers of Punjab Bank and NILC by ignoring orders of the apex court,
He warned that history would not forgive us if we do not stop the plunderers and looters of the national wealth now. PML (N) will join hands with all those who wish to launch a movement against the corrupt government and welcomes those who want to join us in the movement. He said, "we launched a successful long march for restoration of the judiciary' now we will have to launch another long march to protect rule of law and independence and honour of judiciary. He was confident that people would come out on the streets in support of the judiciary.
In reply to a question, he said that PML (N) is holding a meeting in Islamabad today (Wednesday) to take important decisions. The line of direct action against the government will be taken later. The government has proved that it could go to any extent to protect its corruption, therefore it was on the path of confrontation with the judiciary. He said the people are well aware what the government was doing with the judgements of the superior courts. It may be mentioned that the government has so far not implemented directions of the Supreme Court with regard to NRO cases, NILC scam, Hajj scam, Punjab Bank scam, appointment Chairman NAB etc in letter and in spirit.
