Taiwan stocks rose 0.26 percent to a three-week closing high on Wednesday, though Formosa Plastics fell on concerns over the effect of a small fire at a complex operated by parent Formosa Plastics Group. Apple suppliers, such as Catcher Technology and Genius , were up by their 7-percent daily limit for a second day after Catcher posted market-beating quarterly results earlier in the week. Catcher makes casings and Genius makes camera phone lenses for Apple.
The main TAIEX index finished up 23.25 points at 8,817.49, its highest close since July 6. Plastics lost 1.48 percent, with Formosa Plastics down 3.15 percent and group company Nan Ya Plastics dropped 2.56 percent. The fire could deal a blow to plans to restart units at the complex ordered closed by the government over safety concerns.
