Sindh Fisheries Minister Zahid Ali Bhurgari said here on Sunday that provision of health and education facilities is the mission of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto which the present government has been enthusiastically pursuing. The Minister said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of a new Children's Ward at Civil Hospital Hyderabad.
Bhurgari said the new ward has been set up at the doctors' hostel. The district police got it evacuated from its illegal occupiers who had been living here since long pretending themselves as doctors but had had no real association with the profession. "After getting the hostel evacuated, the government will build the new children's ward within a month by spending Rs 2.2 million," he informed, adding that they plan to establish an intensive care unit for surgical ward in the same building.
"Once the new ICU is set up, the patients in need of critical care will not be sent to Karachi for the treatment," he assured. Bhurgari acknowledged that the hospital is providing health service to the people who come here not only from Hyderabad but also from other parts of the province. The Minister also assured Medical Superintendent Ghulam Mustafa Abbassi of Civil Hospital that the provincial government would provide all the funds he requires for transforming the hospital into a modern health facility.
On the occasion, the MS pointed out the electricity supply problem in the hospital. He informed the Minister that the hospital is provided with electricity connection from two different feeders so that it could get uninterrupted supply even if load shedding is carried out on one feeder.
However, he added, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) disconnected the hospital from one of the two feeders. "This has caused a daily 6 to 8 hours load shedding and an enhanced expenditure of Rs 30,000 per day to fuel the generators," he said urging for resolution of the problem. PPP leaders Roshan Solangi and Fayaz Shah, Additional Medical Superintendent Hannan Shaikh and others also addressed the ceremony.
