Doctors and paramedics at Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) have appealed to the government to providee protection to the staffers. "Political affiliations of service providers has severely hampered quality of care provided to the masses," said a senior surgeon at CHK while talking to APP here on Sunday.
Other doctors of the hospital said despite repeated complaints about highly objectionable attitude of junior staff towards doctors as well as nurses no action could be taken against paramedics as large majority of them are affiliated with one or the other political party.
They referred to the incident during which an office-bearer of a paramedics' association allegedly harassed a nursing student and then also misbehaved with the nursing matron of the hospital.
"It was unfortunate to witness nursing students and nurses not attending to the patients due to the unfortunate episode," said head of a department. She mentioned that this was in a situation when 300 posts of nurses are lying vacant at CHK for past two to three years. Nursing students are presently sharing a major burden and needed to be provided proper protection.
