A Somali member of parliament says a fellow legislator has been shot dead by gunmen in the war-ravaged capital of Mogadishu. Mohamud Abeulahi Weheliye says Khalif Jire Warfa was shot several times on the chest Sunday by unknown gunmen as he walked out of a mosque in Hamarwayne district. Weheliye says Warfa died immediately.
Somalia is one of most dangerous places in the world to live in because of the conflict there which started with the 1991 ouster of a long-time dictator Siad Barre by warlords who then turned on each other. An African Union peace keeping force is helping to fight an insurgency by Islamist militants who want to topple Somalia's weak UN-backed government.
