Issue of delegation of powers: FBR chief calls special board meeting on Monday

Federal Board of Revenue Chairman Salman Siddiq has called a special meeting of the Board-in-Council coming Monday to decide the issue of delegation of powers for transfers and postings of tax officials to Members of FBR.
Sources told Business Recorder here on Friday that Salman Siddiq has immediately convened Board-in-Council meeting taking into account the issue raised by FBR Member Inland Revenue, Khawar Khurshid Butt during the Chief Commissioner's Conference.
The FBR Chairman circulated the agenda of the meeting to resolve the issue of the transfers and postings in the field formations. The agenda item of transfers and postings of tax officials at the LTUs and RTOs is related to the FBR Member Administration.
According to the agenda of the FBR Board-in-Council, a meeting of the Board-in-Council of Federal Board of Revenue has been convened on Monday the August 8, 2011 at the FBR House in Islamabad. The meeting would review the progress on BTB initiatives. In this connection, Shahid Hussain Asad Director General, Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation, Inland Revenue is expected to give a presentation on the plan to broaden the tax-base.
The FBR will also discuss the revenue generation strategy for all taxes, cases of stuck up arrears in various courts, cases of illegal input adjustment of sales tax, filing of representation against the orders of Federal Tax Ombudsman, and improving of internal controlling accounting systems.
It is expected that the FBR Member Legal Aqil Usman would give his comments on the issue of filing of representation against the orders of FTO Office. FBR Member Strategic Planning and Statistics (SP&S) will give a presentation on the revenue generation strategy for all taxes to meet the revenue collection target of Rs 1952 billion for 2011-12. The meeting will be chaired by Salman Siddique, Secretary Revenue division/chairman FBR and to be attended by members of the Board, Additional Secretary Revenue division and relevant DGs.
