Long hours loadshedding: industrial units at SIE, QIE cut production

06 Aug, 2011

As many as 150 industrial units, established at the Sundar Industrial Estate (SIE) and Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate (QIE), have curtailed their production mainly because of seven hours undue loadshedding by Lesco in these estates causing a loss of millions of rupees to the national exchequer.
The Chief Executive Officer, Punjab Industrial Estates (PIE), Major General Javed Iqbal (Retd) expressed his concern over the long duration of power loadshedding during a meeting with the industrialists who briefed him about their problems due to continuous electricity shortage.
The industrialists also apprised that the power cut was not only hurting the production process but also increasing unemployment, as the industries have now been restricted to only single shift rather than running their factories in three shifts a day. This unprecedented loadshedding is in violation of Lesco's agreement with PIE and besides aggravating the situation it is causing loss of millions to the country.
The industrialists also told the PIE Chief Executive Officer that the country's exports would also suffer a fresh blow due to this long hours power outages thus the government should take corrective measures immediately to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to the industry.
