Seraiki province movement being sabotaged: Awan

08 Aug, 2011

Former law minister Senator Babar Awan has said that 'Takht-e-Lahore' was trying to sabotage the movement for Seraiki province under 'London plan' by ignoring the constitution. Addressing an Iftar dinner hosted by PPP leader Haji Azizur Rehman Chan, he said the movement of new provinces was according to the Constitution of 1973.
The creation of one unit was unconstitutional while the creation of new provinces was in accordance with the constitution, he added. Babar Awan urged Sharif brothers to face the challenges instead of using tactics to hush up the voice for Seraiki province under London plan.
He said that any move to foil the efforts for Seraiki province would create a negative impact on the national politics. Babar Awan said that the Punjab government was non serious and mishandling the provincial issues, including the Seraiki province.
He laid emphasis on all the stakeholders to play their role instead of politicising the issue of new provinces in the country.
