Sale of substandard items at USC: Prime Minister's Advisor clarifies impression

08 Aug, 2011

Mohammad Basharat Raja, Advisor to Prime Minister on Industries, has clarified the impression created during the discussion of the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and said that Utility Stores Corporation (USC) is a grand institution of public service, which is committed to provide premium quality products to the public at subsidised rates.
He said there is a wrong impression that the quality of product is compromised if things are sold at a reduced price, which in fact is not the case. He further said there is a need to remove this false perception because USC is providing high quality products at substantially reduced prices under its Ramazan package. He said USC is proud to announce that its daily sale has risen from the previous Rs200 million to Rs600 million which is an ample testimony to the confidence that the public repose in the quality and standard set by the USC this year.
Basharat Raja was of the view that a multi-layered monitoring and vigilance system of the Corporation is in operation to check the standards and the quality of the commodities. He said that despite the pro-active monitoring and Vigilance system, if any one finds an item of objectionable quality at USC, he could directly contact him. He assured that strict action would be taken against the culprits if the complaints of the customers are found true.-PR
