Teaching other convicts: educated convict gets eight days' special remission

An educated convict who teaches other convicts and under trial prisoners in jail during his confinement is officially entitled to 8 days special remission in a month.
Superintendent Central Jail, Kotlakhpat, Malik Mushtaq Ahmad told APP on Sunday that according jail manual, only qualified convicts showing better behaviour and exhibiting excellent discipline are engaged for imparting basic teaching to illiterate convicts and under trial prisoners. The inmates who qualify the exams in prisons are also entitled different slabs of education remission as approved and notified by the Home Department.
He said that around 750 convicts undergoing different terms of sentences are working in various sections of the jail factory and they are entitled to five days remission in a month and those working even on Sunday get six days. The convicts who perform duty at roti plant secured seven days remission.
Malik Mushtaq Ahmad said that 3778 prisoners are housed in the jail against its sanctioned strength of 1400 persons.
