KBP calls for check on fertilisers prices

08 Aug, 2011

Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) has urged the government to control prices of fertilisers to facilitate growers for the enhancement of agricultural production in the country. KBP President Zafar Hussain and Information Secretary Haji Muhammad Ramazan in a joint statement here on Sunday said that Urea is available at Rs.1,950 per bag that is beyond the reach of small farmers.
They said the unavailability of fertilisers is not only leaving a negative impact on production but also affecting the economic condition of the growers.
They alleged that the dealers are minting money by purchasing cotton at low rates and farmers are unable to recover the expenses incurred on growing cotton, sugarcane, paddy and other crops. They said that cotton added billions of rupees to foreign exchange reserves every year; adding further he said if the situation continued farmers might not be able to cultivate the fibre crop next year.
