After her disastrous live performance last year, singer Mariah Carey redeemed herself on this New Year's performance with a banging show.
The singer gave New Year’s Eve another try, a year after closing out 2016 on a sour note, as she took to the stage yet again during the live broadcast of ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.
Her live appearance 12 months ago ended in disaster after a countless problems left her visibly upset and she stopped singing, despite a pre-recorded track playing in the background.
This year, the singer looked well prepared and in a much better form. Carey’s performance did not feature the backup dancers of last year. There was minimal choreography, as she stayed in mostly one spot onstage during a frigid New York City night. She started a two-song set at 11:38 p.m. Eastern with ‘Vision of Love’, her first single, from 1990, New York Times reported.
Despite the lack of a comforting hot liquid and chilling weather of New York City, Carey had no trouble hitting the high notes she is known for and earned wild applause from the audience.
“Happy New Year! I love you!,” she said after her performance as she blew a kiss to the audience. “Oh, I’m feeling a lot better than last year, when I had to get my own police escort to walk away,” Carey said, after host Ryan Seacrest asked how she was feeling.
